How to download MindCub3r software using a micro-SD card

1. Description

This page describes how to download the MindCub3r software to the EV3 without using the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 software. This method was created because the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 software for Mac OS from version 1.4.0 no longer supports importing blocks such as the ColorSensorRGB block that is required for the MindCub3r software.

This requires:

  1. a micro-SD card that works in the EV3 (32GB or smaller)
  2. an adaptor to write files to the micro-SD card from your computer

2. Software

Note: to use the Download links below: Select one of the following from the pop-up menu: Then choose a folder on your computer in which to save the file.

2.1 Download MindCub3r Program

  1. Download the appropriate file to your computer:

  2. Extract all the files from this archive.

This archive contains a folder containing pre-compiled files to run on the EV3.

  3. Copy this folder to the micro-SD card so that it appears at the top level of the card as one of:

    • MindCub3r-v2p2
    • MindCub3r-Ed-v2p2

  4. Remove the micro-SD card from your computer.

  5. Ensure the EV3 is turned off and then insert the the micro-SD card into the EV3.

  6. Turn on the EV3 and once it has started, continue the software installation process on the MindCub3r page.
